The new McCain ad, which says Washington is broken and McCain will fix it, is an enormous opportunity for the Obama campaign if played correctly. Ad and transcript in Slinkerwink’s post above but essentially McCain attacks Washington for being broken, and explicitly says, “We’re worse off than we were four years ago,” before claiming McCain is a maverick and is the only one “ready to lead.” Obama campaign, this is a softball over the plate, here’s why:
I know you’re going to jump on the “Washington is broken problem,” and accuse McCain of being there 26 years, but this is missing the opportunity given.
America is “worse off than we were four years ago?” Well, what happened for years ago? This did:

The one hit McCain has yet to take for some unknown reason is the fact that he enthusiastically endorsed and campaigned for George W. Bush four years ago.
This ad is the PERFECT opportunity to remind people of that fact. And, by the way, I hope the picture of the hug, the video of McCain at the 2004 GOP convention praising Bush, and others like that, are prominently displayed at the Dem convention.
Just attacking McCain for being in Washington a lot isn’t enough – attacking him for enthusiastically endorsing and campaigning for Bush sure as hell is. Here you go Obama camp:
“We’re worse off than we were four years ago? Then why did John McCain enthusiastically endorse and campaign for George W. Bush and vote for him 95% of the time?”

that picture could also be so effective showing how hes a republican puppet…he looks so pathetic snuggling up to bush, its creepy. rather than being the *cough* ‘independent maverick’, he has karl rove and his gang pulling the strings telling him what to say, do.
