An Idea For The GOP Convention
How about this for an idea? I’m not that quite well-versed on ad buys, but I remember that Obama bought up a huge chunk of ad time for the Olympics. Why not the same for the Republican National Convention? I think that would present an excellent opportunity to run ads defining John McCain, and outlining Obama’s own policies for middle class families for the voters in Michigan. Also, I would strongly suggest that Obama reserve a HUGE amount of the ad time for the Democratic National Convention in order to prevent McCain from getting in some ad time.

Two questions:
1) Did you mean Minnesota?
2) I’m not sure about this, but is there some sort of historical precedent on propriety about running opposition ads during the week of the convention? I’m not saying there is or isn’t, just that I have no idea.

I meant Minnesota. Well, there used to be a historical precedent on propriety about not running negative ads during the Olympics until McCain broke it.

You can almost certainly guarantee that McCain will spend a good chunk of his remaining primary cash running attack ads during the Democratic convention, so that should pretty much free Obama up to do what he wants during the Republican convention.

Bad Idea — respect for the other party’s convention is one of the few areas where the GOP still has a shred of decency.
If Obama did it, the screeching harpies would go off 24/7 about how arrogant and disrespectful Obama is — in addition to being an uppity celebrity.
