Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

Hilarious/Scary – McCain on technology.

So, McCain was in San Francisco, raising money (no word as to whether or not he acquired any “San Francisco Values” while there). And, next door to Silicon valley, he decided to let loose with some Stevensesque words about “The computer.”

“It doesn’t mean that I have to e-mail people,” he said. “Now, I read e-mails,” he added, saying his staff is “constantly showing them to me as the news breaks during the day.”

Serious question here: Does John McCain know how to check his email? Shouldn’t we have a president who can check his email? Please?

“I use a computer almost every day. I go on different web sites … ours and the various media,” he said.

Shouldn’t we have a President who uses a computer EVERY DAY? What would have happened if Franklin Roosevelt didn’t use a phone because he preferred the old telegraph machines? What would have happened if Lincoln declined telegraphs – trusting his communications to handwritten notes delivered by horseback?

As former head of the U.S. Senate Commerce committee, McCain said, he has been a driving force to oversee legislation that helped the Internet flourish – even as he is still learning to get comfortable with it himself.

So John McCain was passing legislation about the internet – a place he never visited until recently? Sound familiar?

GOP presidential candidate John McCain…acknowledged Monday that he isn’t a “tech freak” or entirely comfortable with the Internet, BlackBerrys or e-mail.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A TECH FREAK TO USE THE INTERNET. It’s really quite easy – and it has been ever since Netscape introduced a friendly little browser IN 1995. Which was 13 years ago. And it was arguably easy even before that, with AOL.

Will this get any coverage? Will the media ask whether or not a President should be able to check his own email?

  1. If someone were to apply for a job running even a small company, and he didn’t know how to use the internet, he would be laughed out of the interview room.

There should be the same qualification for president.
