Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

Did Obama’s night drive the pick?

There are no doubts that Obama’s speech last night was a blockbuster. None. If the McCain campaign was well-run (it’s not) they would have anticipated a no-drama convention with a killer speech to wrap things up.

They knew they would have a chance to step on the bounce with a Veep selection. But it seems clear that the remarkably successful Democratic convention has forced McCain into a pick that he might later regret, to stir up the news.

If Obama had not done well last night, the choice was easy – someone like Romney or Pawlenty that wouldn’t have stirred up too much news – letting Obama’s bad speech “own” the news cycle.

But with the success of Obama, they felt they had to “react” with something similarly dramatic – so they’ve picked someone who wasn’t vetted, who is in the middle of an ethics investigation, who has admitted to drug use, who has little experience, and who, just so happens, to be a woman.

And, all criticism of Palin aside (and there will be much more of that to come), do you really want a President who would pick a Vice President simply as a one-news cycle gimmick? Or does John McCain really think that Palin would be ready to take over in case of emergency? Either way – this selection has to raise more questions than it answers.

  1. I yield to no one in my disdain for this pick (see my post below), but I highly doubt it was made in response to Obama’s speech. Just from a logistical standpoint, there’s no way they could have thrown everything together at such short notice.

  2. I am reading the right wing blogs, and message groups and what I read suggest that the republican base LOVES her.

They think she is strong (“barracuda”) and they know she is anti-abortion, an NRA member and that she does not let environmental issues get in the way of money.

I think we should take her REALLY seriously as someone who gets McCains base excited, although I do not know what we could do about that.

  3. That’s all fine and dandy, but our country is facing serious trouble, and I can’t imagine having any confidence in her in dealing with an emboldened Russia, REAL Iranian nuclear proliferation (unlike Iraq) and an economy in the tank. What does this say about his judgment and his intent on keeping the US secure?

This is absolutely one of the happiest days of my life! Mr. McCain has just handed us the election with this pick.

  4. Obama,

You are the first candidate the U.S. has had in a long time that has continued to spread false information from the first time you hit the campaign trail.

I find your technique one of the most offensive I have ever experienced. I find your ethics are on the border of being unethical and your manipulation of the facts most disgusting.

It is common knowledge that the media will always press United States citizens to vote for the candidate who offers them the biggest kick-backs, pay-backs, and over-all “favors”. That is you, Obama.

Then look at your over all personas: Your stance, the way you hold your head, your gestures, the clothes you wear, the pronouns and adjectives you use. Everything about you is the personification of an individual, who does NOT, let me repeat DOES NOT, have the United States citizens interests’ at heart. You are an elitist and the persona I just described is living proof — your entire appearance is proof — FACT — of what I say.

Okay – now let’s talk about education. You have a law degree but did not practice law. Why? Readers – look this one up and you will see why. And, the result is not a positive one.

Then there is the community organizer work you undertook in the state of Illinois. That, too, has been overstated and turned into something “positive” that it in fact was NOT. Dear readers – check this one out yourself as there are many Illinois citizens who will tell you the “truth.”

My education – NOBAMA – is equal to or greater than your education. I do have the same ability as you to influence U.S. Citizens: And I certainly am taking the opportunity to exploit you for what you truly are.

You see I am an educator, who works for a famous “Research One” institution, who has the ability to write Journal Articles that all college students will use for research. The true facts about you will come out and in a place that will most definitely do the most good – to influence voters “young voters” on how to spot an individual who does not represent the United States in the capacity as he states he will. Make no mistake, Obama, people will definitely know the subject of the Journal Articles is referencing you and your 2008 Presidential campaign.

See you in “honest” fact-finding print.
