Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

If You Read One Blog Post Today…

…then read this one by Jeffrey Feldman today on Dailykos.

In a nutshell:

In the wake of John McCain’s ‘pig’ ploy scandal, I wanted to draw attention to a new frame that is taking shape at break neck speed in the debate.

I call this the ‘Solve Real Problems’ frame and it has the potential to set the stage for Democrats to win the election.

Read the whole thing, it’s exactly right. The opening now is there for Obama to become the pragmatic candidate who will actually solve the problems of America. As Jeffrey explains so well, this frame will help Obama win the election.

Do yourselves a favor – read this post and forward it on.

  1. Dukakis did this “competence” framing.

  2. I agree. I think that Obama has to do the, “oh yeah, where’s the outrage over the ever increasing foreclosure rate? Where’s the outrage with our high unemployment? When you’ve got more houses than you can count and hang with the likes of Phil Graham that mocks the real suffering of the American people by calling YOU a nation of whiners, then I can see why HE’s trying to make this election about “personality.” I’ve got real solutions for real problems. John McCain offers only “psychological” change. If that’s the only “change” you’re looking for, then McCain is your GUY. If you think that this serious time calls for serious measures, then I’ll be counting on your vote on November 4 to tell Bush and McCain: ENOUGH!”

    Okay, I’ve said my piece.

  3. Slink – Obama is no Dukakis. It’s not the competence framing. It’s the Bill Clinton “it’s-the-economy-stupid” framing. It’s the way that Obama connects with voters.

  4. dansac–look at this.

The electoral map, four years on

A reader notices a familiar state of play on Electoral-vote.com, a site that maps polls onto the electoral vote.

    9/11/08: Obama 273, McCain 238, tied 27

    9/11/04: Kerry 273, Bush 233, tied 32

The only differences: Kerry lead in New Mexico and Nevada was tied; Obama leads in Nevada and New Mexico is tied.
