Strategy ’08

Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

This Is Really Happening

Sarah Palin tells Katie Couric that this bailout is actually about…health care reform (note: she glances at her notes and switches to job creation quickly – although I still don’t know what she’s talking about).

For some reason the sound is off-cue by a second, but you’ll get the gist:

Abridged transcript:

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? … Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.

  1. She is an absolute farce. I really am beginning to think that McCain’s sole strategy is to get the VP debate postponed.

  3. I can’t believe I’m actually defending her, but I think I understand what she was trying to say — namely, that if we don’t get a bailout passed, the economy will go in the shitter and we won’t even be able to think about job creation, healthcare reform, etc. But, of course, what she actually said was a total mess. My guess is, she was accidentally holding the card with her talking points upside-down.

  4. gdh1 — I get that too, but that’s only because we KNOW that’s the proper political answer for those who support the bailout (and don’t want to be beaten down by the actual taxpayers.)

Even though we all can read through that Madd Libb paragraph to grasp what she SHOULD have said, Holy Cow! That made absolutely NO sense. She didn’t answer the question, then launched into a laundry list of the McCain “talking points.” I literally can’t wait to hear Katie’s response! I wish we could get the full, unedited interviews — I think they would be SO illuminating.
