Just For Fun: Palin Spending Spree MUCH WORSE Than Thought

Okay – a little bit of levity on this historic day. Here’s a story that will get you smiling: Newsweek reports that Sarah Palin’s infamous spending sprees on clothing (something she blamed on the campaign), were MUCH WORSE than previously anticipated. Yes, that’s right, much worse than $150,000:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy.

How outrageous was this profligacy? Well, take a look at this:

One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

Just as in her days in Alaska, when she charged the taxpayers for her time spent at home, or countless other remarkable boondoggles, Diva Palin can’t resist grabbing while the gettin’s good. But she didn’t just use her own expense account to buy clothes, but she had some of her underlings charge it on their cards too!

According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement.

But here’s my favorite part. Ready for it?:

One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Okay, where to begin? First of all – $20-$40,000 for her husband’s clothes? Men, are you with me here? What the hell would you spend that much on for clothing? Certainly nothing that was essential in the two months between her nomination and the election. She had to know that, so clearly she was loading up while she could.

And some “have apparently been lost?” Please. They’ve been lost deep into Palin’s closet.

According to the Newsweek story, the aides kept McCain in the dark about this so as not to enrage him. Palin, the hardcore ladder-climber, made a request to the campaign to speak alongside McCain’s concession speech last night (!?!). Understand this: Sarah Palin wanted to speak as part of John McCain’s concession speech. Steve Schmidt (wisely) vetoed the request.

I know, we beat them and have bigger fish to fry. But I’m not above gloating, and this story is too much fun.

  1. Well, well, well. Whatever happened to Sarah From the Block who just didn’t have time to shop and had nothin’ to do with these highfalutin’ city duds? Say it ain’t so, Sarah!

  2. Where EVER will she wear the stuff again? Certainly not skinning moose. Maybe to a Seperatist rally? Maybe while spying on Russia? She’s disgusting.

I’m so glad Pathetic Palin is gone….for now. I shudder to think she might weasel her way into the Senate.

  4. You *ucking people are just as stupid in victory as you were in defeat. Who cares!!! Just like a hate-filled lib to kicka person in the balls when their down. It’s over, you won. Lets compare what she spent to what obama and biden spent. You concentrate on the money spent on clothing and not a word on all the documented funds obama and company received from illegal resources. Why not focus on why all of obama’s relatives live in such poor conditions here and abroad!!!!! Let’s talk about real issues, idiots!!

  5. Wow Bob Roberts! Just, Wow! Angry much?
Why don’t you take your right wing talking points (now quite defunct) on over to No Quarter or Redstate? I hear there are some really fine pity parties going on.
You guys can console each other with the knowledge that Obamas “real” birth certificate never came to light and now it’s just a matter of time before the impeachment!!!

  6. I don’t think Palin’s theft is very important compared to other kinds of theft attempted in the GOP’s name just lately.

But, for Palin or anyone to steal clothing and services (which translate to Real Money) of any monetary value from anyone is unlawful and demonstrates low moral fiber.

Attempted theft of public perception of Obama’s integrity; attempted theft of an election (again); theft of the Real GOP by a fringe group so strident in its bleating it is mistaken for important; theft from the Real GOP its honorable reputation from bygone years; theft of the goodwill of many decent citizens; theft of voting rights; theft of civility and simple courtesy (e.g. the hate mongering rallies), theft of hope and optimism; theft of intelligent national discourse.

    — I could go on all night about the thefts perpetrated during the campaign alone —

One need not look far. John Edwards receives a $400 haircut and is made a laughingstock. John McCain can’t remember which of the 13 houses of which he has use are held in common with his wife. This is written off within a day to senility (as though that’s some kind of improvement over unfathomable wealth). Sarah Palin gets a lot of mileage out of being Mrs. Ordinary American while indulging herself in an immoral, gluttonous binge of consumerism.

Meanwhile, the fellow who gained entrance into Harvard Law without mentioning his race, who has a heart large enough to encompass even the small minded (it strikes me that his capacity for doing that is partly responsible for his election), who exemplifies unremittingly his temperance, practical use of his intellect and clarity of thought, who has absorbed and gone far beyond his education to a youthful wisdom with which most of us have no experience — this fellow who has decided to take on the country’s worst problems and challenges, who in spite of the rarefied air he breathes now, knows and loves his roots — he is called “elite,” as though that is a dirty word.

He is pictured reading (reading!!) with his feet on a table’s edge, the soles of his shoes wearing through. Contrast this with the Alaska Ice Queen, full to the brim with her false self, with not a genuinely coherent idea in her head, taking orders and delivering speeches written by George Bush’s writers and advisers while stealing the silverware before she is discovered to be a worse phony than McCain and is sent packing by the electorate in nothing flat, back to Alaska where she can lord it all over her constituents and gun for the felonious Stevens’ Congressional seat.

Reformer? Maverick? Worse than this obvious hypocrisy is the mean spiritedness, the greed and covetousness she demonstrated. This exactly the kind of behavior – though tame in comparison – about which she lied and decried while pretending to be Regular Hockey mom. (How many suits does a young man headed for the Iraq war need, anyway? One? Two?) Worse than any of it is the mean spiritedness, the greed and covetousness (sound like biblical words to me) she demonstrates.

And if we’re going to get really petty, I imagine a man who was raised by his maternal family while his paternal side multiplied entirely outside of his awareness might look at those relational possibilities with some regret, but not exactly feel responsible for the offspring of a father he did not know with women he also did not know. They are relatives in the technical sense, only.

I think the self righteousness of the McCain supporters is hilarious when taken with the stinginess, heartlessness and outright ice cold response to the world’s ills of that party and those two candidates in particular…

  7. President-elect Barack Obama is enjoying one last vacation in Hawaii, where he grew up, before his inauguration. The Obama family will be staying in a $9 million single-story oceanfront home fronting Kailua Beach. The home is listed on a vacation rental directory, and given the description it appears to be this one which rents for $2500-$3500 a night. The home is less than a mile from another beach house where the Obama family stayed during August vacation.
