Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

Obama: Back Off

Obama

Very good, Senator Obama:

Politico’s Carrie Budoff Brown reports: At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: “Back off these kinds of stories.”

“I have said before and I will repeat again: People’s families are off limits,” Obama said. “And people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor and/or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics.”

Audio of interview here. He also vows to fire any campaign staffer that stokes this story, and obviously isn’t happy with the implication his campaign had anything to do with the story:

“I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us,” he said. “Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired.”

Now, let Obama never speak of this again. But how does the media get off charging that Obama had anything to do with this story? There is no evidence to support it. In fact, The Fix reports that Obama has taken great strides to stay away from it:

Some Republicans have already insisted that the Obama campaign is behind the rumor-mongering about Sarah, Bristol and Trig — although in our experience the campaign has not pushed the story AT ALL, in fact they have been encouraging reporters to focus on the issues of difference between the two candidates rather than personal stories.

So why is the media allowing anonymous GOP aides to attack Obama on this? In any case, let the media and tabloids deal with this. We have an election to win.

  1. how do you interpret this vis a vis, supporters (not surrogates) talking about it. Not the personal side of it, but the “how could McCain be so careless aspect and how will this news affect the election” aspect.

Do you think we harm the Obama campaign by discussing it? Because I definitely want to talk about that aspect.

  2. I think the issue will be anyone directly related to his campaign. He obviously can’t keep thousands of bloggers from discussing it.

  3. I applaud Senator Obama for saying that families are off-limits. I’ve thought that a lot of these stories are over the top. I’m sure that Governor Palin’s family has been through a great deal lately – between her winning the governorship, to Trig’s birth (late in life) with special needs (adding strain to the family), to Bristol’s pregnancy, to her candiday for VP.

Let’s all remember that Bristol is a 17-year old child. She didn’t ask for this spotlight. She didn’t ask to have her private life splashed all over the newspapers. So LEAVE HER ALONE!!!

Her mother on the other hand… I think this was a poor pick by McCain, although her policies are right in line with what he was looking for. My question would be – why did she accept? She’s clearly putting her personal ambition ahead of her family. Not to mention putting her personal ambition ahead of what is good for the country. Despite what she said to People Magazine – how can she think she’s ready to be President???? I think both of them are showing lousy judgement… I hope the voters (particularly the PUMAs) see through this obvious ploy.

  5. Here is the truth about Obama —

    Obama,

You are the first candidate the U.S. has had in a long time that has continued to spread false information from the first time you hit the campaign trail.

I find your technique one of the most offensive I have ever experienced. I find your ethics are on the border of being unethical and your manipulation of the facts most disgusting.

It is common knowledge that the media will always press United States citizens to vote for the candidate who offers them the biggest kick-backs, pay-backs, and over-all “favors”. That is you, Obama.

Then look at your over all personas: Your stance, the way you hold your head, your gestures, the clothes you wear, the pronouns and adjectives you use. Everything about you is the personification of an individual, who does NOT, let me repeat DOES NOT, have the United States citizens interests’ at heart. You are an elitist and the persona I just described is living proof — your entire appearance is proof — FACT — of what I say.

Okay – now let’s talk about education. You have a law degree but did not practice law. Why? Readers – look this one up and you will see why. And, the result is not a positive one.

Then there is the community organizer work you undertook in the state of Illinois. That, too, has been overstated and turned into something “positive” that it in fact was NOT. Dear readers – check this one out yourself as there are many Illinois citizens who will tell you the “truth.”

My education – NOBAMA – is equal to or greater than your education. I do have the same ability as you to influence U.S. Citizens: And I certainly am taking the opportunity to exploit you for what you truly are.

You see I am an educator, who works for a famous “Research One” institution, who has the ability to write Journal Articles that all college students will use for research. The true facts about you will come out and in a place that will most definitely do the most good – to influence voters “young voters” on how to spot an individual who does not represent the United States in the capacity as he states he will. Make no mistake, Obama, people will definitely know the subject of the Journal Articles is referencing you and your 2008 Presidential campaign.

See you in “honest” fact-finding print.
