Obama vs. the other guy, 2008

Obama Launches Keating Economics

Oh my:

The current economic crisis demands that we understand John McCain’s attitudes about economic oversight and corporate influence in federal regulation. Nothing illustrates the danger of his approach more clearly than his central role in the savings and loan scandal of the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Gloves. Off.

  1. Yikes. Well, the McCain camp walked right into this one.

Generally, I don’t think these things have much relevance for people today, although it’s clear the Obama team is going to try to tie in the Keating scandal to today’s financial crisis.

Still, keeping the focus on the economy and hitting them for the “turning the page” comment will ultimately be the more successful tactic.

  2. This is great that the O team is fighting back, but I don’t think it will work. I think most people have double standards and believe it’s ok to degrade the “black” candidate and not the other.

I watched a lot of sunday morning shows (meet the press etc..) and I found a lot of pundits saying “Ayersgate is fairplay”! Is it? Really? I just don’t think people will have the same response about “Keating gate” like they have/had about “Ayers, Rezko and Wright”. But that’s just me thinking out loud!

  3. Trellskig, none of it will make a big difference. It’s the economy, stupid.

  4. This is fantastic and so very relevent to America’s economic crisis. This is not simply guilt by association. John McCain was neck deep in the the Keating 5 scandal. And this puts a spotlight on the fact that McCain is no reformer. He is someone who is a diehard advocate for the deregulation of our finacial markets that has lead us to the brink of economic disaster.

  5. He had like a million vacations on Keating’s dime. The Obama campaign should not let up on this until the McCain camp does on the other stuff.
